The Danish progressive metal band Danefae conjures a world of nature, myths, and magic on their second album Trøst. At the heart of the band’s expression is vocalist and lyricist Anne Olesen, who draws on Danish legends and literature to craft personal stories, delivered virtuously through the band’s organic, complex, and melodic music.

Danefae began as Anne Olesen’s solo project in 2017, while the band took its present form when the four members started studying at the conservatory. Here, in an environment dominated by jazz and pop, they found each other through a shared love of rock and progressive metal. The lyrical inspiration is drawn from nature, the Danish language, folk legends, and songs. Complementing the locally rooted language and its layers of meaning, the Nordic tonal language became central to Danefae’s melodies. This fusion of the progressive and Nordic musical traditions forms the core of the band’s distinctive style, which can be simply described as progressive metal with Danish lyrics.

Danefae made their album debut in 2022 with Tro, which garnered attention in Denmark for its uniquely Nordic-sounding progressive metal, leading to the band’s first concerts around the country. After the debut, the members became even more united in a shared vision for the band and its future music.

On Trøst, Danefae masterfully combines the complex with the immediate, and their curiosity and ambition to continually expand their artistic palette, refine their instrumental skills, and to understand the human condition are central to Danefae’s artistic endeavors.

On the live front 2025 has been a real break for Danefae – winning the Danish edition of Wacken Metal Battle followed by a slot at Wacken Open air, a mindblowing performance at Copenhell, performing at Spot festival, Millerntor Gallery in Hamburg and two high-profile support shows for Gaerea (hand picked by the headliner themselves) on their Danish run are among the highlights of a very memorable year following the release of Trøst.
