SIBIIR turned a lot of heads with their debut two-track 7” in 2015, and have been polishing their special brand of Norwegian metal ever since: Cold metal with hints of hardcore, heavy, black, death, thrash, sludge, punk, and a tasteful, fearless joy of not giving a damn about genre rules and boundaries – but still somehow sounding recognizably Norwegian. All wrapped up in a modern and compact soundscape, with dystopian and socially critical lyrics.
Their self-titled debut album from 2016 firmly established them as a vital part of the Norwegian metal scene, making many of the year’s top lists, and hailed by Terrorizer as “a savage”. Three years later, the band released their sophomore album Ropes, which was nominated for Best Metal Album of 2019 at the prestigious Spellemann Awards (Spellemannprisen).
Undergang, their third album, released in June 2024, shows a band that are able to evolve and innovate while still sounding unmistakably like themselves. Heavy, tight and aggressive, but also dynamic and full of interesting details that make it worth listening to again and again. It’s the perfect soundtrack for anyone with a relentless anger and a bottomless desperation over the world’s inaction and unwillingness to take responsibility for the future. The album earned SIBIIR their second Spellemann-nomination, for Best Hardrock & Metal Album of 2024.
Critically acclaimed live shows on stages domestically and abroad surely have given them quite the reputation so far, and the band have appeared at festivals like Wacken, Roskilde, Øya, Summer Breeze and Eurosonic. SIBIIR have toured Europe twice with Kvelertak, and played with a diverse selection of bands such as Enslaved, END, LLNN, Cult Leader, and Spidergawd.
